چکیده

trial fibrillation (AF) is classically proposed to result from ultiple wandering atrial wavelets (1,2). However, recent xperiments by Jalife et al. (3) have implicated an additional ole for single micro–re-entrant circuits within the left trium in AF. The pulmonary veins (PVs) are an important source of pontaneous electrical activity that initiates AF (4–6). Such ctivity may also manifest in isolated extrasystoles or slow/ apid atrial rhythms (4–6). In addition, rapid focal disharges (sustained sometimes for hours, days, or even onger) have been observed to drive sustained AF in some atients, representing the true “focal or focally driven” AF

The Atrial Fibrillation Substrate: Pulmonary Veins, Posterior Wall, or Both

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia seen in clinical practice and is associated with a notable increase in morbidity and mortality. Although there have been considerable advances in the treatment of AF, the results of drug treatment and ablation remain suboptimal.1 This is largely due to the fact that there is still little understanding of the mechanisms responsible for the i...

Catheter Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation

everal different approaches have been proposed for targeting the pulmonary veins (PVs) or atria in catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF). It was initially focal radiofrequency (RF) application inside the PV, then PV ostial isolation by segmental RF applications guided by a circular mapping catheter was developed (EP-guided method).1 Another standard method, circumferential PV isolation...

Assessment of P-wave indices as atrial fibrillation predictors in psoriasis patients

Background: Psoriasis is a prevalent chronic T cell mediated inflammatory skin disorder. Recent studies have reported an increase in the incidence of arrhythmia in psoriasis patients who run an excessive risk of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. P-wave dispersion (PWD) and duration are important electrocardiographic (ECG) markers employed to anticipate the risk of atrial arrhythmi...

[Radiofrequency ablation in the treatment of focal atrial fibrillation using circumferential mapping and segmentary disconnection of pulmonary veins].

INTRODUCTION The treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in patients without structural heart disease using radiofrequency ablation of pulmonary veins is a recently developed procedure with a good clinical success rate, although there have only been a few published series. We analyzed our results with this technique. METHOD The procedure was performed in 33 highly symptomatic patients wit...
